With the support of the Veterans Foundation we opened our second Veterans and Community Drop-In Support Centre at Bridge Church in Rock Street on 18 of June 2025. This new Centre was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Horwich, Councillor Kevin McKeown, in the presence of Councillor Ryan Bamforth, Bolton Council’s Armed Forces Champion.

If you are in need of help then do, please, contact the Guild on 01204 524858. The office is open from 9:00am until 3.00pm Monday to Wednesday. If you require help outwith these hours, please feel free to visit one of the Drop-Ins.

History

The need for the Guild was critical during both World Wars and the years in between but, although the tragic circumstances of those conflicts are now in the past, the need for the Guild has not gone away. The Guild administered the local requirements of the Soldiers and Sailors Families Association (later SSAFA The Armed Forces Charity) for many years until local SSAFA Branches and Divisions were formally established within the area. Earlier, in the 1940s, the Guild helped to administer the local requirements of a number of other military charities including the:

• British Legion and United Services Benevolent Fund
• Soldiers and Sailors Help Society
• Earl Haig Remembrance League
• Royal Naval Benevolent Trust
• Royal Patriotic Fund

On 30 September 2021, with the support of the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, we launched a new Veterans Support Drop-In Centre at the Bridge Coffee shop. The Centre was formally launched by Her Worship the Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Linda Thomas.
